Signs It's Time to Upgrade Your Company's Forklift Fleet

    Last updated 1 year ago

Aging forklifts can be costly to maintain and operate. Expensive industrial equipment is bad for business and therefore a full upgrade of your forklift fleet will eventually be needed. Maintenance and performance problems are a good indicator that your forklifts may need to be replaced. Here are some things to consider when determining if you need to upgrade your forklift fleet:

    • Expensive Fuel: You should immediately consider upgrading your fleet if you are spending a large percent of your budget on fuel. Modern internal combustion lift trucks from manufacturers like Toyota boast very high fuel efficiency. Alternatively, you can also invest in a fleet of electric lift trucks. Both upgrades will begin to save your company money by spending less in fuel costs.

    • Repeat Repairs: Recurring repairs are another sign that a forklift (or an entire forklift fleet) should be replaced. After all, your company can’t get the most productivity out of forklifts if they are always broken down or in the shop. Ongoing, repeat repairs are extremely expensive as well. The best way to cut costs on repeated repairs and maintenance issues is to invest into a brand new or quality used lift truck.

    • Internal Changes: Sometimes, the requirements of a given job site will change over time. You may need a forklift fleet that’s more appropriate for a growing operation and to address the safety needs of your employees. For example, if loads have become larger and heavier, the load capacity of your forklifts may no longer be adequate. An overloaded forklift could put the operator in serious danger. As well, should your facility move towards a narrow aisle application than choosing the narrow aisle forklift that can safely stack higher and move safely around the warehouse would be required.

Toyota Forklift travels to new heights!

    Last updated 1 year ago

A Toyota Forklift travels to new heights at the Water Station construction site located in London Ontario.

In order to get a Toyota forklift down to the construction site, a crane was used to lift up the lift truck in the air and then lowered through a hole in the roof of the complex. The forklift which was rented by the construction company McKay-Cocker from our Liftow London branch was then utilized to move around material and equipment on the construction site.

On the road or in the air, Liftow forklifts go everywhere!

How Much Lift Do You Need?

    Last updated 1 year ago

The right choice of forklift will help to cut expenses and improve productivity in your warehouse. Your lift truck purchase is most cost effective if the vehicle properly meets your company’s lifting requirements. Consider the following factors when choosing your forklift to make the best investment.

    • Power Needs: Lift capacity is an important consideration when choosing your forklift. A forklift with too much power is a poor investment; a lift truck with too little power can lead to maintenance and safety issues. Worksites with small weight loads can benefit from a high-quality pallet truck. These compact pieces of equipment can easily transport loads between 4,500-6000 lbs. Alternatively, you’ll need a full-sized forklift for your heavy-duty lifting needs. These powerful pieces of equipment can easily lift over 15,000 lbs.

    • Worksite Type: Forklift selection isn’t all about power. Your equipment should also meet needs of the organizational structure of your warehouse. Pallet trucks are usually sufficient for businesses with floor level-only storage, while warehouses with elevated stacks will require a high-reaching counterbalance or reach forklifts. You should also consider the layout of your warehouse when choosing a lift truck—small forklifts offer additional manoeuvrability to compensate for their lack of power.

    • Fuel Considerations: Gas- and electric-powered vehicles offer different benefits for your business.  Electric forklifts emit zero fumes and are perfect for indoor use. These machines are low-noise and low-maintenance, too. Gas fuels offers features like extra torque and easier refueling for your forklift. Finally, you can use local fuel costs to determine the long-term costs of each type of forklift.
